Broad Local Public Support
The proposed North Fork Rancheria entertainment and gaming resort enjoys wide-spread support from the local community. The projects has been called “responsible development” because of its “constructive, transparent and collaborative” approach.
Key support milestones include:
--The signing of several MOUs with the County of Madera (2004), the City of Madera (2006), and the Madera Irrigation District (2006). All MOUs were approved with unanimous support.
--Launch of the Business Coalition for Building a Better Madera (“Business Coalition”) in August 2005, a group of independent business and community leaders in support of a project that will drive development in the City and County of Madera
--Launch of the FANS (Friends and Neighbors in Support) booster group that now includes nearly 5,000 endorsement signatures.
Most local area tribes, jurisdictions, and business associations have joined the thousands of individual supporters and many community groups to get behind the project.
By supporting the North Fork project, the local community is not picking sides but rather embracing "any and all" Tribes and tribal projects that follow the federal process and letter and spirit of the law.
By supporting the North Fork project, the local community is not taking a political position but rather is endorsing the enormous economic benefits - jobs, business opportunity, community investment, and economic growth - that projects like the North Fork casino deliver.
In this way, the entire community helps to fulfill the true promise of Indian gaming -- to improve the quality of life for Tribes and surrounding communities.
